SENKO MEDICAL INSTRUMENT Mfg. CO., LTD. (MERA) aims to establish its position as a
comprehensive manufacturer of medical devices based on research and development.
The Origin of MERA

“MERA” is a registered brand name of our company, and was originally named after Mera in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture which was the birthplace of the founder Risaburo Aoki.

HISTORY

1940

The Aoki instrument shop was founded by Risaburo Aoki.

1950

Established SENKO MEDICAL INSTRUMENT Mfg. CO., LTD. Released Japan’s first positive pressure closed circuit anesthesia machine.

1953

Released Japan’s first heart-lung machine, released Nakayama-style stomach and intestine suture device.

1954

Completed Japan’s first dialysis machine.

1959

Completed Iguchi-style vascular suturing device.

1964 Won Tokyo invention service prize.
1965

Completed Japan’s first artificial heart valve, SAM valve

1970 Completed frozen blood storage unit.
1971 The company’s first president, Risaburo Aoki, receives Shiju-Hosho (Medal with Purple Ribbon).
1974 Risaburo Aoki, wins the Ichimura Industrial Award (Idea Prize) from the New Technology Development Foundation.
1975 Risaburo Aoki, wins the order of the rising sun, gold rays with rosette.
First business person selected chairman of the 50th Japanese Society of Medical Instrumentation conference.
Co-organized the “Exhibition of medical device history,” Completed organ preservation unit.
1977

Opened Aoki medical device archives.

1978 Donated historical medical devices and documents to the Japanese Society of Medical Instrumentation in order to provide Aoki medical device archives as a public service; the Society for Japanese Medical Devices Preservation is founded as a new public institution.
1979 Risaburo Aoki, assumes the role of chairman. Executive director, Yoshio Aoki assumes the role of second president.
1981 Risaburo Aoki, wins the special prize for contribution from the International Federation for Artificial Organs.
1983 Yoshio Aoki, wins the technology prize from the Japanese Society of Medical Instrumentation.
1984

The Society for Japanese Medical Devices Preservation is approved by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a juridical foundation.
Risaburo Aoki is conferred an honorary doctorate from Cleveland Clinic of the U.S.
Released the world’s first silicon hollow thread membrane oxygenator.

1985

Our Humming Bird is adopted for the development project of a high-frequency respirator for newborns in the U.S. (National Institutes of Health).

1987

Commercialized cold laser developed since 1982.
Commercialized F Breathing circuit.

1988 Yoshio Aoki, is elected chairman of the Japan Association of Medical Devices Industries.
1989 Yoshio Aoki, assumes the role of vice-chairperson of the Japanese Medical Device group committee (Current the Japan Federation of Medical Devices Associations).
Yoshio Aoki, assumes the role of managing director of the Society for Japanese Medical Devices Preservation (foundation).
1991

Won the Good Design Award for Exelung Binding HPO-25 membrane oxygenator.

1992 Yoshio Aoki, wins the Inoue Harushige Award from the Research Development Corporation of Japan (Current the Japan Science and Technology Agency).
1993 Yoshio Aoki, wins the person of merit award from the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
Yoshio Aoki, assumes the role of vice-chairperson of the Japanese Federation of Societies of Medical Device Commerce and Industry.
1995 Yoshio Aoki, assumes the role of commissioner of the Japan Associate for the Advancement of Medical Equipment (foundation) .
1996

Founded MERA SENKO CORPORATION in Cebu, Philippines.

1997 Yoshio Aoki, is elected chairperson of the 72nd Japanese Society of Medical Instrumentation Conference (two consecutive generations).
1998

Vice president Makoto Aoki is elected vice-chairperson of the 27th Japanese Hospital Equipment Society Conference (Current the Healthcare Engineering Association of Japan).
Yoshio Aoki, receives Ranju Hosho (Medal with Blue Ribbon).

2000

Celebrated the 50th anniversary of our foundation.

2001 Received ISO 9000, ISO 9001and ISO 13485 certifications.
2002

“Center Building” constructed at the Kasukabe factory for maintenance service and logistics bases.

2004 Passed revision audit for ISO 13485.
2005

Yoshio Aoki, receives an honorable recognition from the economic trade director of the Japan Fair Trade Commission from the National Federation of Fair Trade Conferences (Foundation).
Received a commendation from His Majesty the Emperor for the achievement of founding archives in order to archive documents and historical materials concerning medical devices.
Yoshio Aoki, is elected a person of merit by the Japanese Society for Artificial Organs. President Yoshio Aoki receives an honorable recognition from the economic trade director of the Japan Fair Trade Commission.

2006

Opened the “Research and Development Center” in Kasukabe.

2007 Yoshio Aoki, receives assumes the role of chairperson, Vice-president Makoto Aoki assumes the role of the 3rd President.
2008 Awarded the “300 cheerful manufacturing small and medium-sized companies in 2008” prize from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
Awarded the “22nd small and medium-sized business excellence technique product” prize for Heart-lung machine HAS II.
2010

Yoshio Aoki, receives the state commendation from the minister of state for special missions as the Operating Chairman of the Fair Trade Council of the Medical Device Industry who has contributed to thorough implementation of Act against Unjustifiable Premiums and Misleading Representations.

2013 The third annex building constructed in Tokyo.
2016 Opened the “Okayama Logistics Center” in Okayama.
Changed a notified body of ISO13485 from TUV SUD to BSI.
2017

Makoto Aoki is honored as a Person of Tokyo Metropolitan Merits by Tokyo Governor.
Makoto Aoki, assumes the role of chairperson, Vice-president Masato Aoki assumes the role of the 4th President.

 

 

2018

MERA centrifugal blood pump system “UNIMO” won the Excellence Award of the 30th SME Excellent New Technology and New Product Award
“Speech Balloon” won the Grand Prix of the 2018 Saitama Medical Device Prototype Contest
